Preparing for Winter: Clean up Flower Beds

Asiatic Lilies, Peonies, and Irises dying back as they prepare for winter...
As the day length shortens, most of our plants are preparing for winter.  If you look around your yard, you will notice plants yellowing and loosing their leaves along with the trees.  Take some time this weekend to remove dead annuals and cut to the ground any perennials that come back from the root in the spring .  By removing all of the dead stalks and debris, your significantly reduce the chance of harboring a disease or pest that will cause problems next year.  I take all of my dead flower and veggie garden material to the city compost site to just because I'm not sure my compost gets hot enough to kill any disease or seeds.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Fall Gardening! :)
